Keeping Fit During The Festive Season

At this time of the year, we're all searching for the amazing dress to wear to Christmas parties and wow everyone at New Years Eve. I thought I'd share with you all an app I've downloaded which helps me keep fit at home - no gym, in the comfort of your own home, and can be done whenever you're in the mood to go for it! It is called The Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout App - it is free to download on iPhone and Android. The workouts are made up of different exercises and you can do as many circuits as you want to. The app also gives you the opportunity to start with a warm up and end with a cool down - which is perfect if it's you're working out at home.

Must Have Christmas Jumpers

Christmas jumpers are a must in December, let's be honest! Especially, if like me, you work in retail! Basically I will be in a Christmas jumper every working day in December... I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. Today's post is a round up of my favourite jumpers on the market right now, as you can tell I love a good old pun! My favourite jumper would have to be the, 'I only do mornings on December 25th,' because it speaks to me.

Sensational Lashes

Since using Benefit's Rollerlash, I just can't find myself falling for any other mascara. It just did such nice things to my eyelashes, but I don't want to spend just under £20 on mascara every time I run out... The last few months I've tried endless tubes of alternative mascaras and today, I thought I'd share with you an amazing hit and one complete and utter miss.

The products I'm comparing today are Maybelline's Lash Sensational Lash Multiplying Mascara (£7.99) and Rimmel London's Supercurler Mascara (£6.99).

Bullied, Controlled and Finding Myself

Being young and in a relationship has negative and positive points. It gives you a way of learning about so many aspects of life like socialising, love, heartbreak etc... But it can also be very restricting at times. Restricting someone from doing/saying/wearing something is emotional abuse. Remember that you are your own person and this is your life. This is my story of finding who I really was at 17 years old.

I've had relationships with peers and boyfriends in the past which really impacted on my state of mind. I didn't realise how much my past experiences had affected me until about 2 years ago. Being a teenage girl is never easy, I'm sure everyone can agree with that. There are so many pressures to start puberty, talk to boys, dress and act a certain way, when really you should be focusing on school and making solid friendships. Unfortunately, teenage girls are basically bullied into thinking they should wear certain clothes, some are pressured into smoking, others are even pressured into losing their virginity. It just has to stop.

Open University Experience // Weeks 1 & 2

Picture from my Tumblr page (I use Tumblr strictly for study motivation)

I cannot believe it is the end of my second week of uni... It has flown by and I have gone through so. Much. Material, you would not believe!! A230: Reading & Studying Literature is seriously a hefty amount of work but, I actually kind of love it (so far)! I've always known I love studying English, but I thought I was more of an English Language girl, but oh my word, English Literature is so interesting! I've only studied one of many (many) texts at this point and I already have so many notes with many different criticisms too! This is the nerd inside me but I love reading criticisms... UGH! Anyway taking a step back from this overly raving rant about English Lit. I will go on to tell you all how my first two weeks of being a second year student at The Open University have been.

CV Building // Interests and Hobbies

Here is the third instalment of my CV building series, if you haven't read the previous posts, please do so! Here is part one and part two. This section of your CV is the place where you get to finally show the employer who you are and what you're all about! This is the section I usually get questioned on mostly in interviews (from my own experience).

Preparing for Second Year // The Open University

As many of you may be aware, I am a student at The Open University. I am just about to start my second year and I am beyond excited to get back into the routine of studying. The majority of my study will be from at home so I wanted to make sure that I was properly prepared for my second year. First of all, I just want to emphasise that I am finally a second year university student... It feels so good to have found the right course and university for me! Even though, studying with the OU is a challenge, I would recommend it to everyone! Like any university student, you must be well-equipped with stationary. Yes, I said it, stationary *gasps in excitement!*

CV Building // Education

This is the second part of my blog series on writing a CV. Here's my first post which is all about writing your personal details. The next section is about your education. This part is very simple, but they way you set it out makes all the difference.

Being a Morning Person

Most people shudder at the thought of getting up at 7am, every day. In reality, getting up early every morning, is really good for your body and mind. I must firstly point out that I'm no health expert, my tips in this post are simply from my own experiences.

CV Building // Personal Details

As a twenty year old undergraduate, I feel like I understand the importance of a well structured CV. I have been in employment since 2011 and have had SO many interviews with SO many different companies. I thought I would create a new blog series all about CV building because they can be a pain to start but once you've got a first draft sorted it's really easy to keep them updated as the years go on.

The Nude Lip

Thanks to Kylie Jenner, every girl wants that perfect nude lip. Unfortunately, I can't run out and buy the exact lipstick she wears right now, so, I came up with my own take on the brown nude shade, she loves to wear. I'm kind of on a mission to not buy any more makeup unless I absolutely 100% need that product. So, I turned to my lipstick collection. As a teenager, for some reason I bought ALL the pink and fuchsia shades... Why?! I have no idea!

First of all, when I thought about trying a nude lip, I went for a pinky nude... But, it just washed me out. I literally looked ill. I've now taken on the browny-nudey lip trend and this is what it looks like. I like it. It makes me feel v. sophisticated and v. Kardashian/Jenner. I used Rimmel 1000 Kisses in 700 Nothing But Nude  to almost line the lips and then used Maybelline Nude Lipstick in 742 Luminous Beige on top to add the brown shade.

I think this has worked really well. What are your opinions on the brown/nude lip trend?

Makeup Bag Staples

Recently, I've been getting deep and personal with you all with meaningful lifestyle posts (which I love doing by the way) but, I think it's about time I update you with what I LOVE to use on my face. That's correct, I'm letting you all know about what are my must have staples to carry in my makeup bag. I am not the best at makeup, but I have such an addiction to beauty products. That Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette is 100% next on my list... Next payday maybe? Seriously, I should stop the spending when it comes to lipsticks, nail varnish and of course, my beloved concealer obsession... Yikes!

Do you know the question - what makeup products would you take to a desert island with you? Well these are mine, there are several... Don't judge me!

"You Should Eat Less," says Nurse

I thought I'd share something personal with you all this week. It kind of saddened me but also inspired me to keep thinking the way I do. My parents have brought me up to think that I am beautiful no matter what size or shape I am, and thanks to them I have always had that in mind. I've never been one to obsess over diets such as Weight Watchers, Slimming World or Herbalife and I never knew how obsessed people were with weight until I was around 15-18 years old. To this day, it still shocks me how people are obsessed with losing weight, even when they look great the way they are! As a pre-teen I struggled with bullying because of my weight and early puberty. I can remember being in year eight and boys in my class teasing me asking if I was pregnant... I can also remember begging my parents to let me stay at home so I didn't have to face these bullies the next day. It's sad how much of an impact memories like this have on, not only myself, but plenty of other people in the world. As I'm sure, I'm not alone in having an experience like that.

The Importance of Self-Appreciation

Self-appreciation is the quality of having respect for yourself. I believe that this is so important and definitely needs to be talked about more. In school, I was taught a lot about how to have healthy relationships, how to treat people nicely and how to act correctly in social situations... However, I cannot think of a time where I was told to appreciate myself and to look after me. The last year or so, I really have come to terms with the fact that you must love yourself before you can begin to care for anyone else. If you're not happy with yourself, and how you act/look, you'll never trust anyone enough when they compliment you. You know the feeling of doubt? Stop doubting every positive thing people say to you. Not everyone is out to get you. Okay, in fairness some people are just mean but most do genuinely mean they love your skirt and the way you did your hair today.

Tropical Treats

The heat is cranking up, finally! I have also finally booked a Summer holiday. This means that new clothes are a must... Even if I already have clothes from last year... Please don't judge me. I've been seriously eyeing up tropical floral prints and swimwear. Desperate for bikinis and Summer clothing, I ran to the internet. Don't you just love how easy internet shopping is? Log on, your Paypal details are saved and with just a click of a button your items can be with you the next day. How satisfying.

I headed over to Boohoo first as I always like to check their "new in" section. They had 20% off holiday clothes which was perfect! So I eagerly purchased this gorgeous playsuit. Long sleeves, light material, rose gold detailing that zips in that waistline and a stunning v neck which is super flattering. I'm kind of in love with this, so much that I might wear it before I actually go on holiday... Is it just me that buys holiday clothes and then tortures themselves into eventually wearing them not on holiday?!

YSL Ad Ban // Body Positivity

Driving home today I was shocked and upset to hear that the number of hospital admissions of teenagers with eating disorders has nearly doubled in recent years. I sat in my car and was simply horrified, to be honest with you. I thought I wish I could tell all these teenagers that they're beautiful and will continue to be that beauty no matter what their body looks like... Then I thought, I can tell them... I have a blog?! A slightly abandoned blog, may I add (soz not soz, uni calls).

So, this news story started with the story about a banned YSL advertisement *sigh... The media!*  The picture below shows the banned picture. The model, 18 year old, Kiki Willems, is in good health according to the fashion world. However, this well and good, what kind of message does this image portray to the younger generations? I'm glad that it has been banned.

Benefit's Roller Lash Mascara

I gave into the hype. Now, I don't usually fall for these but the constant advertising of this product along with all the positive blog reviews I've seen of this mascara made me succum to actually giving Benefit my bank card details and buying this, "super curling and lifting," mascara. Another reason why I bought this mascara is because it's my birthday and I can treat myself, OKAY?!

My relationship with buying makeup is unhealthy but I am way more a high street makeup kinda gal. Sometimes I do splurge on little treats now and then, for example the Urban Decay Naked Palette and the Illamasqua Multi Facet Palette (review coming soon), but mostly, I love brands like Revlon, L'oreal and even Natural Collection (I swear by their pressed powder). I once bought the Benefit They're Real Mascara and I really enjoyed using it. I just can't justify spending £20 on a mascara... Especially with my minimum wage pay. As it's my birthday and I have been eyeing up this mascara for so long, plus I had a 15% off code for feelunique, I just took to the website and gave them my money. Yolo??

Contraception, Casual Sex and Consent

For years and years, women were treated as second class citizens: no right to vote, be educated, work, etc. Just look at us now, right? I sometimes sit down and think how lucky the generation of today, including myself, are. Some women who lived before us were treated terribly, some even were victims of domestic abuse and couldn't escape it due to the patriarchal environments. In contrast, I sometimes sit down and think how some women are still treated like this. It annoys me so much. Women who rebel against the 'norms' of society are looked down upon, but men who do the same, gain from whatever the situation may be. Women are people and should be treated equal to men.

We should treat every girl like we do when we're drunk in the girls' bathroom. Am I right?? We are all women, all in this together! Who run the world? Girls.

January Favourites

January is finally over and done with. Phew. I hate the month of January and I always seem to suffer with January blues. However, it's a new year and a fresh start for Hannah Notes, so I thought I'd kickstart this month's posts with a January Favourites (the month of January not being included).

Studying At Home // The Open University

When I was younger, I always dreamt of becoming 18 and going straight to university, starting my life as an adult and falling in love. Well... That didn't really go to plan haha! I took a few months out and thought about what I really wanted to do in my lifetime. I blogged a lot in those months and really had a passion for it. I love the writing aspect of blogging, it just makes me feel relaxed and creative. I knew I wanted to study something that involved Creative Writing but none of the courses were close to home and I am the biggest homebird. That's when I came across The Open University. The thought of working at home scared me a little bit and I wasn't 100% sure I'd be able to do it. Four months into my university course, I still have a passion for it. Learning excites me. Planning my week, research tasks, submitting assignments and reading feedback all still appeals to me! I always have said, if I don't like doing something, I won't do it anymore (hence why I dropped out of Swansea University last March). This post is for people who want to know more about The Open University and hopefully it will help you out to decide whether or not you can make it work for you.

Quick Update and 2015 New Year Resolutions!

So... I may have given myself a month off from blogging... Maybe even a little longer, but who's counting the days right?! I have had the most busiest month of essay writing and working non stop and catching up with friends and drinking too much. Now it's time to reign in the busy schedule, take a month off alcohol and clubbing, focus on money saving and continuing my university course. Happy New Year!
