How to Successfully Stay Organised

Browsing through Tumblr has led to me discovering the, "studyblr," tag. What a revolution. If you're feeling like crap and want to do nothing but sit in bed watching hours on end of Netflix, instead of doing that 2,500 word essay, search this tag on Tumblr. Now, if you have to!

Studying at home can sometimes be a huge distraction in itself, but not anymore. I don't know what it is about a set of neatly written notes that can be so inspiring. Due to my discovery of these studyblrs, I thought I'd quickly show you a page from my planner and give you some organisation tips.

Tip #1 - USE A PLANNER

Don't put off buying a planner just because it's just another notebook. Get. One. Now. Write down all your assignments and their due dates. Plan your study schedules each week (as you can see in the below picture) and tick/cross them off once they're complete. I also highlight when I'm working so I can clearly see when I won't have any free time or study time. I'd also recommend giving yourself a day off, even you university people, we all need a break! Mine is this Sunday as I will be severely hungover that day and therefore unable to study. In the notes section of my weekly view, I also write down any assignment results I have. For example, I had 63 in my first open uni assignment ever, which I'm very happy with!

Tip #2 - COLOUR IS NEEDED

I don't know about you, but I need colour in order to feel motivated to read anything. I use coloured pens to tick off a complete activity on my daily to-do's. I use these cute Paperchase owl stickers to clearly mark out when my assignments are due in, which make them easy to find in my planner; they're not completely flat and act as a sort-of bookmark. I also use floral washi tape to decorate my planner as it just makes it cute and more appealing.

Tip #3 - KNOW YOUR STUDY SPACE

I have a separate desk in my room strictly for university work. This is my study area. I usually light a candle (at the moment it's Yankee Candle's Black Coconut), grab a drink and get my head down into my books. In the picture below I show my study set up for one of my Arts: Past and Present chapters on Cezanne. Again, I like to use coloured pens for essay plans and highlighting key facts.

So, this is how I currently stay organised whilst studying for my degree with The Open University. Hopefully I will be able to submit my essay tomorrow, nice and early! Do you have any study tips I could use? Let me know in the comments!

My Study Space Essentials

Three weeks into my degree with The Open University and I am loving it. For those of you who don't know, The Open University offers a wide range of courses which you complete in the comfort of your own home. The fact that I can control when I study and where I study benefits my learning style completely. I am studying three modules this year; the arts past and present, beginner's German and English for academic purposes online. My first assignments are all due in, in the next two weeks so, I thought it would be interesting to show you where I work from - my desk.

I love working from my desk. Everything I want is at an arms length. Stationary wise, here are the pens I use most: polka dot pen from Paperchase, Bic pink, blue, green and purple ball points from Amazon and Sharpie yellow, orange, pink and blue highlighters from Staples. I am actually obsessed with these pens.

Other stationary bits I have been loving are Tipp-Ex correction fluid from Staples, flexible ruler from Wilkinsons, floral washi tape from eBay and page markers from eBay.

When it comes to notebooks, I have been using the Oxford Campus project book from WHSmith for all my main notes. The plastic dividers in this notebook are really handy to separate my work from each module. I also use these polka dot exercise books from Paperchase. One for German vocabulary, one for essay plans and one for new words and definitions. I'm finding them very useful at the moment.

Tech-wise, I have been truly and utterly fascinated by my wireless mouse. For some reason, I have been kept in the dark from wireless mice so I marched down to Morrisons and picked one up for £8. I must say, it was the best £8 I have ever spent.

I have also been enjoying organising my week thanks to my planner from WHSmith. I may even give in to the FiloFax hype one day...

Hope you've enjoyed looking at my study space faves!

Seventeen Va Va Voom Mascara // Makeup Monday

Do you ever feel like trying out a new mascara? Mascara is the one makeup product I always purchase differently! I rarely buy high end mascaras as the product doesn't last that long and you're supposed to change your mascara quite regularly... (I don't... Guilty). One of my most favourite mascaras is from the brand Seventeen at Boots, so, I went to that section and picked one up. It promised a, 'false lash effect with staying power.' Sounds good to me, I thought. I bought the waterproof version as I was going on holiday the week after so I could take it with me and wear it in the warm weather.

I have been wearing this mascara for the past two months and I am not disappointed. When I first applied this product, I was shocked by how much volume it gave me. When I saw my friends, they all thought I had a pair of false eyelashes on. That's how good this is. I'd compare the effect it gives to the Benefit They're Real Mascara. It's an absolute bargain at only £6.29. It is worth every penny!

The brush is made out of tapered bristles and let me warn you, it's quite chunky. Hence where the volume comes from. If you have small eyelashes, I'd give this product a miss as it could get extremely messy. Especially, at the first couple of uses as the formula is quite wet to begin with. However, if you have medium to long lashes, go out and grab this gem of a product!!

The mascara comes in three versions, that I'm aware of, black, brown and waterproof black. It is sold in Boots and you can buy it by clicking here.

What's your current favourite mascara? Let me know in the comments below.

Fresh Start @ The Open University

If you have followed me since the start of this blog, August 2013, you would have known that before it became, 'Hannah Notes,' it was originally called, 'Hannah The Fresher.' It feels so long ago, but it was only a year ago I started to study Geography at Swansea University and I hated it. When I finally dropped out in March this year, I took some time out to think about what I actually wanted to do with my life. This is a hard task for a nineteen year old girl. I still find it bizarre how we're supposed to have it all figured out when we're picking our GCSE subjects. I thought about an apprenticeship and was even offered a full time job as a shift manager, but I knew they just were not the right thing to do in my situation. I did my research, Googled a few things, searched on YouTube and decided that the right direction for me would be studying at The Open University.

For those of you who don't know what The Open University is, it's an online university where you do your course at home and have the option of full time or part time study. Now some people cannot get their head around this concept, but it's exactly the same as conventional university life, just at home and mostly online. You have set assignments which you send in every month and, even have exams, where you go to the nearest exam centre to sit your paper. There are tutorials held with your tutors and you even have meetings with your tutorial group online. You can also apply for student finance just like every other university in the UK. So, there's really not much difference is there?

One of the main reasons I chose to study at home is because I actually want to take my studies seriously and achieve the best result possible. For me, at Swansea University I felt like freshers was too much and don't get me wrong, I love a drink! I just didn't enjoy it. Everything just felt like a joke and I'm not paying that much money to get a degree I didn't even enjoy studying. Do you know what I mean? So, I chose to study a subject which I love. I'm going to chase my dreams with the help of this blog and my degree. I want to be a writer. It will happen. It'll be tough and I understand that, but I have always loved writing. Even when I was younger, I used to make a mini magazine for the family.

As of October the 4th, 2014, I am an English Literature and Creative Writing student at The Open University and I cannot wait!

Are you going to university this year? What are you studying?

The Comforter by Lush

As the sun sets, and the colder months begin to make their way into our lives, we need to take care of ourselves. I'm not talking about vitamins and healthy eating here, I'm talking baths with bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles. Ever since I was a young girl, I have always found bubble baths so relaxing. There's something special about dipping your first toe in to check the temperature and then completely submerging yourself in the tub. On a cold, wet and windy day, there's nothing more I look forward to than coming home and running a bath. Add in a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and maybe a few candles lit, and I am in heaven. Baths are one of my favourite things about Autumn/Winter.

When it comes to bath products, I always used to get a load over Christmas and then use them throughout the year. I never treated myself and went out to buy a nice bubble bath or anything. This was until quite recently where I was walking through the streets of Swansea and smelt that smell... You know the one.... That Lush smell. It was a cold day and the smell enticed me into the shop. Since then, I've never looked back.

I always make sure I have at least one Lush product at the house, just in case I need a bit of bath TLC. I seem to always repurchase the same product, and I don't care. I love it. It's appealing to the eye and smells so luxurious. It's also pink, which is always a plus right?! It is of course, The Comforter (buy here). As soon as you smell this beauty, you'll immediately want to buy it. Packed with a blackcurrant fragrance which results in pink bath water, what more could you want? I really do think this bubble bar is the one.

What are your favourite Lush products?
Let me know in the comments below!

Colour Blocking With Missguided // OOTN

I kind of have a crush on all the clothes over at Missguided. Do you ever look at one brand and instantly want to buy everything on the website? I do. It's such a bad habit, especially as I don't have that much money (thanks to car insurance). I was browsing the other day and decided to get a playsuit. Playsuits are one of my favourite items to buy, even though, they can be a bit of a hassle when slightly intoxicated. You know what I mean girls! Toilet breaks mean that your friend has to come with you and has to unzip you and zip you back up. #PlaysuitProblems. But playsuits, to me, can look so flirty. They can get away with being super short as they're shorts. You can show that extra bit of leg with no worries of your underwear creeping out from underneath.

On a night out, I usually go to wear something black, of course. However, when I came across this pastel number, I knew I had to have it. The front panel is a baby pink colour and the sides and back are a pastel blue/lilac. The black outlining really did it for me. It kind of has this body slimming design to it, which I really am not complaining about. The almost halterneck style spaghetti straps look gorgeous and give the outfit that 90s vibe that's going around right now. Who doesn't love the 90s, am I right?

I paired the playsuit with some heeled ankle boots. As you all probably know, I live for heeled ankle boots. I just need that extra support. This pair are from New Look but are probably out of stock by now. New Look boots have really been on point this year and I'm so impressed. I recently bought another pair from there and they're such good quality and less than £30. You really can't go wrong!

This playsuit retails for £19.99 and you can buy it by clicking here.

5 Boys You'll Meet On Tinder

Tinder; "it's how people meet," the smartphone app announces. If you're single and how you say, "ready to mingle," Tinder is meant to be a way you can connect with new people. It's completely based on looks. You see a picture, a name and an age (if the person is brave enough, they may also include a brief description of themselves... I am not one of these people). The idea is you swipe right for yes and swipe left for no. Easy as that, right? That's until you start talking to your so-called matches... Approach Tinder light heartedly and if you're actually expecting to find your future husband on there, I wish you the best of luck.

From my experience, as a nineteen year old, Welsh girl, Tinder is just there for a laugh. I don't believe that anything serious will ever come from it. It gives you an ego boost when you see the notification pop up on your screen, "Congratulations! You have a new match!" But, if you try to talk to your matches, you may come across similar characters as I have...

1// The Social Butterfly - this boy wants to know everything. Your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Kik, Tumblr, Vine... When will he quit? His profile is a stereotypical selfie with a list of all his social media links in his description. This guy craves a new follower. You will probably be able to keep a conversation going with him, as he knows exactly what you got up to that day, thanks to your earlier Instagram post that you shared to Facebook. However, the chatting soon dies down when he adds your Snapchat account and starts sharing inappropriate photos you don't want to see. *Unmatches, blocks, deletes*

2// The Topless Gym Freak - you swiped right for six great reasons. THOSE ABS. Perfectly sculpted and biceps for days. His face? Who cares?! Look at those abs. Just. Look. At. Them. He uploads gym selfies and clearly is in love with himself... But who can blame him with a body like that, right? One day, he catches you off guard and messages you, "hey u ok x" and you die a little bit inside. You start to wonder why the hell he swiped you right... Then you realise, he wants naked photos of you to add to his collection. I allow you to screenshot his abs and then swiftly click unmatch.

gym photo: Das Gym DasGym.gif

3// The Hairy Guy - usually seen as an alternative to your usual right swiping... A bearded God is sacred to the Tinder world and they are a rare breed of Pokemon. You have to catch them all. Sometimes, someone a little more rugged than usual is just what you need. Well, it's just what I need... Sometimes. They usually have a sleeve and have a grooming ritual better than yours. You wait patiently for the moment they post a selfie with a caption of their Snapchat account. When that day comes, you will rejoice to the heavens above, trust me.

4// The Ego Booster - sometimes we all need a pick-me-up and this boy will certainly help you out. He's sweet talking and knows the lingo. He calls you beautiful and promises back tickles and hot chocolate (even though he lives 157km away!) He talks to you better than any of your ex-boyfriends, but don't fall for it! He soon will post a selfie of himself with a caption of, "feeling really sad today x" Urghhh... This is not what you're on Tinder for. If you start telling this guy he's a gentleman he'll keep you up to 3am arguing how he's not good enough. You've told him he's lovely, and so have his other 147 matches. Just go to sleep.

5// The Tinder Date - you've been talking to them for a while now and you think, yes I will go on a Tinder date. You go out for food, you talk easily and get on okay. A success! That's until you go home and a week later they're messaging you asking, "are we ok?" You are allowed a life. Don't these boys on Tinder know that?! You have a job/are in education, you can't be replying to them every second of the day. All that happened on that date was that he paid for the meal; even the starters, and now he assumes you are basically, "a thing," now? One free meal doesn't make me your girlfriend babe.

I hope you all enjoyed reading this different post. As usual, thanks for reading!

Makeup Monday // Barry M Nail Paint

There once was a time where I used to never go out without my nails painted. I'd switch up the colours from black, neon pink and nude... Sometimes I'd even experiment with nail art. I once did strawberry nails and also an aztec design. Then I got a job and things changed. *Sigh* Nail polish can instantly turn my mood around it instantly makes you look more eye-catching and unique. If it's a special occasion I will 100% have my favourite nail colour on, and of course, I'd be workin' it. Today, I'm reviewing the Barry M Nail Paints which are available to buy in Superdrug stores. They come in a range of colours and there is seriously a colour for everyone. The colours I own are 290 Spring Green and 303 Bright Purple. I love these colours as they're so in-your-face and loud.

PRODUCT

The nail polish is thick and only really needs one coat. It does take a while to dry so don't think about doing anything with your hands while the nail polish is still wet. I really wish Barry M released a quick drying nail product... Hint hint. There are many colours, as I've previously said, and they range from deep berry colours to neon, matte, glittery, the lot!

PACKAGING

The packaging of these nail paints is shown in the above picture. I really like the matte black top and the font of the writing. It really gives the product the 'Barry M' feel. The packaging isn't over the top and you do get what you pay for without it looking overly cheap and tacky.

PRICE

The price of these nail paints is £2.99. For matte shades or limited edition shades, the price is usually £1 more. I think this is a fair pricing as they are really pigmented and glide on easily. You get what you pay for, but these are better than nail polishes from Maybelline and Rimmel, in my experience.

Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed this post!

My Month // July 2014

Hello everyone! I know, I've been gone for a few weeks now. I was busy, deciding on my future and dealing with personal issues. I'm sorry! This first post is just a catch up about what I've been up to these last couple of weeks. My month, July.

The first week of July was spent in Sunny Bulgaria, where I drunk two for one cocktails everyday with my best friends. The whole week was jam packed with memories that I'll keep with me for the rest of my life. I may not have gone out every night of the week, but I still had an amazing time on holiday. I'm going to do another post talking about my holiday experience and what I would recommend doing on Wednesday. So be prepared for Sunny Beach selfies.

The other three weeks I came to terms with the fact that holidays were over and the reality of going back to work hit me. My shifts have increased to five a week, which I'm definitely not complaining about as I love money. They say money can't buy you happiness, but it does make me smile knowing I can do whatever I want, when I want. Know what I mean? My work life has been crazy.

I also gave up on the apprenticeship hunt. Recently, a friend told me that maybe an apprenticeship wasn't right for me as I already had three A Levels. I took this in to consideration and now I've enrolled on an Open University English Literature and Creative Writing course. I've always loved writing, hence why I started blogging, so I'm hoping this course will do me wonders. I've received some of my course materials already and I'm super excited to start studying in October.

this is what dreams are made of photo: this is what dreams are made of dreamsaremadeof_zps494df96e.gif

That's kind of all I have to say. Big dreams and hopefully a big future. As for blogging, I'm thinking of doing a university blog series and maybe talk about the Open University more in detail. I'll also be back with Makeup Monday's, of course. Remember to keep up to date with me on my social network links below.

Packing // Holiday Help

Packing. Love it or hate it, when it comes to a holiday we all have to do it. I don't particularly love packing. It's so time consuming and I never know what clothes to pack and then I end up taking too many which I never wear throughout the holiday. Today I'm going to show you how I packed for my holiday. You may find it excessive or not nearly enough, but my weight limit was quite low and I panic pack (even though I planned).

Planning is essential.

This year I made spider diagrams of all the items I had in mind to take with me. I colour coded my diagram with pink highlighted meaning it's packed, green underlined meaning I'm wearing the item to the airport and yellow underlined meaning it's in my hand luggage. I've still managed to over pack but at least I'm super prepared? Right?

Suitcase choice.

Pick light luggage. The lighter the case, the more you can take/bring home. My luggage is from IT Luggage and it is so light. It's incredible. However, I only have two wheels. I didn't realise four wheeled luggage existed until a recent trip with my friends. They found it so much easier, so out of the whole luggage collection I would recommend buying something like this.

Pack appropriately.

Don't go packing your new pair of high waisted jeans if you're going to be spending a week in thirty degree heat! Even if they do look absolutely amazing on and make you look like you have a bum Iggy Azalea would be jealous of, trust me, put the jeans down. Check the weather! I used an app on my iPhone called Yahoo Weather and it showed me a ten day weather prediction. If its going to rain, pack a hoodie or a coat! Take sensible shoes and anything important you need!

Important documents.

Don't be a massive drip. Remember your tickets, boarding passes, PASSPORT (and EU health card if travelling within Europe). You never know what will happen on the day, so double check just in case.

Comfortable travelling.

You want to be comfy on the plane. I wore a jersey maxi skirt, a light top and a cardigan. They were quite heavy items so I saved some weight there.

These are my tips so far. I've only travelled on a plane twice, so I didn't go too into detail. Nevertheless, I hope you enjoyed reading this post! Check out my previous Holiday Help post by clicking here.

Makeup Dreaming

makeup dreaming

Hello everyone! I'm back from my holiday!  It was amazing! Sun, sea and cocktails 2-4-1 every hour of the day... What more could you want? I thought my first blog post after a week away would be all about the high end beauty products I've been crushing on.

The Benefit Push Up Liner looks so easy to apply and the effect is flawless... As Beyoncé would say! Next up on my list is the Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette. Who hasn't been crushing on this? It's full of rosey sparkly nudes. I love nude eyeshadow a!! Then we have this Chanel Lip Gloss which is super long lasting... Could you ask for more? Then I found this Dior gem! A shimmery highlighting blush! It looks like it would suit my skin tone perfectly! The last product on my makeup wish list is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Concealer. I am a massive concealer lover and I've heard so much about the Double Wear foundation, this must be good!!

Hopefully soon I'll treat myself! My usual post regime will restart next week as I'm still recovering from my week long hangover! I would 100% recommend Sunny Beach for a Twenties holiday, it's so cheap over there!

Makeup Monday // L'oreal BB Cream

Hello you beautiful lot! Just letting you all know I'm on holiday (finally!!) So posts are scheduled for today, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday as normal. However, I won't be able to read comments, comment or talk to you all for a whole week!! I know it sounds so bad. I will miss blogging, but a break is always good! Hopefully my scheduling will go to plan, if there are any issues with the posts, I apologise deeply and will deal with any errors when I get back next Monday! Thank you for reading and let's get on to this makeup review!!

It's July tomorrow which means Summer and Summer = light makeup bases. Am I right ladies? Last Summer I thought I'd try a BB Cream so I picked this one up from L'oreal. This was the lightest shade available so I thought there would be no problem...

Product:

Okay so the product itself comes out of the tube a white colour. It has these smart pigment capsules which blend to your skin colour....... Apparently. I tried it and it didn't work out too good. It was way too dark for my skin tone, which was disappointing as this was the lightest shade available. If you look at the pictures below you can see the colour difference on my hand. The product clinged to my dry patches and overall I just did not like the BB Cream.

Packaging:

The packaging is sleek and I love the metallic purple on the white tube. It really stood out to me in the store. However the fact that this is a squeezy tube means that you won't be able to get all of the product out of it. A quick tip would be once you've squeezed what you think is the whole of the tube out, cut across the tube and scrape out the rest of the product into a separate container for the next use.

Price:

The price of this BB cream is £9.99. I just don't think it's worth it. It's not a great BB cream and you can find way better for a similar price.

You can buy this BB Cream from Boots by clicking here.

Mini Is Better // Holiday Help

As you all know, I'm going on holiday soon... In fact I'm jetting off tomorrow for sun, sea and cocktails!! I am so excited. So in preparation for this week away, I went to Superdrug and bought minis. I love minis. Mini things are cute and lovely and small and fun... Just me? Okay I apologise for this obsession. I just love anything mini okay?! As I am so excited by travel size products I thought I'd write you all a cheeky extra post this week! How lush am I right?

Superdrug have an offer right now where they are selling 3 travel size products for £3. They're good brands too! I bought my essentials and didn't buy any face washes or cleansers as I will be taking full size products just in case I break out on holiday, which I really don't want. So here are the six products I bought in mini, cute form.

All of these six products came to £6. I've never tried any Aussie products so I'm excited to give that conditioner a whirl! All the other products I've tried before and I know they work well for me. Writing this post has got me super duper excited to go now. I just want to be there. I will be there tomorrow around 9pm. I can't wait. Hope you all have a great week!

Makeup Review Monday // Collection Bronzer

Due to the sunshine I'm feeling like a bronzed goddess. I decided to look through my bronzer collection and came across this product from Collection, so I thought it would be perfect for a Makeup Review Monday's post here at Hannah Notes.

If you're like me, in the Summer I love to tan. Makes me feel so happy and healthy. However, due to my extremely pale and red skin, my face doesn't seem to change colour. It stays pink and my nose goes red. Attractive. I discovered bronzers when I was sixteen/seventeen and I bought this shimmery one last year. Most of the bronzers I own are matte, so I thought one with shimmer would be ideal as I have dry skin, so it will make me look more dewy and healthy.

PRODUCT

The product is very shimmery, almost glittery... Which scares me. The top layer of the product is basically full on glitter. The bronzer is very pigmented and very orange. Too dark for my skintone sadly. However, as I don't like to use this product on my face, I thought about using it on my body. The glitter in the product acts as a highlighter. So I take a sweeping of this product down the middle of my legs to make them look longer and also dab a little on my collar bones. If I'm a bit tanned, it does work well on a night out.

PACKAGING

The packaging is good in my eyes. You get a lot of product (19g) so this will last you a lifetime. The packaging has recently changed but it's still the same bronzer! It's great for the amount you get and the price you pay.

PRICE

£4.19 for a 19g product is amazing when compared to spending £27 on an 8g product, Nars Laguna Bronzer for example. Obviously the product isn't amazing, but it works well for your body. If you have a darker skintone it will look lovely too!

A Lazy Girl's Hair Care Routine

Hair for me, is a huge chore. If I could afford to pay someone to do my hair for me everyday, I would. I hate doing it, I hate the effort it takes to look good and I had the process of drying it! Urgh... However, as I am a 'beauty blogger' I thought I'd take some time out from hating on my hair to write a post dedicated to it. Some of you may be very excited to read this, but others may not... I thought it was suitable for this blog as I've previously done a skincare routine post

Shower Products

Head & Shoulders shampoo is a must for my dry scalp. Why dandruff, why?! I also started using this conditioner from Lidl and wow, it is amazing. Makes my hair silky soft and you only need a small amount to coat your hair with. I would recommend this to anyone with dry and damaged hair.

Out Of Shower Products

This is the Lazy Girl's Hair Care Routine, so usually I'd just leave it dry by itself, no product or hairdryer necessary. On days where I actually need to do it I use this Anti Frizz Serum from Superdrug and put it into the ends of my hair and blow dry. I only ever straighten or curl my hair for interviews, date nights or going out so I only use hairspray then too. My favourite is this one by Pantene, number four! This paddle brush is essential for long haired girls like me. I picked it up from Avon.

That's it. Short and sweet. Ooozing laziness for all my hair lazy ladies out there! Wow that's a mouthful, hair lazy ladies, hair lazy ladies. Definitely pick up the Cien conditioner from Lidl next time you're in there, it's mega cheap too!! Don't use a massive blob though as it's uber nourishing and if you use too much your hair will look disgusting haha! You won't be disappointed if you use a little bit!

You Say Orange Is The New Black?

Orange Is The New Black

Items from left to right: Fanny Crown Aztec Orange DressBoohoo Button Down CamiBoohoo Stripe Maxi SkirtASOS Slim Ankle GrazersTopshop Underwear SetMissguided Eyelash Lace PlaysuitRiver Island Floral Top.

I have been inspired. Yes. Inspired. Anyone watched the new series of Orange Is The New Black yet? I logged onto Netflix and watched the whole series in a couple of days. Addicted? A little. I love the whole women outlook on prison. I love the stories of each character. Most of all I love how it's inspired by a true story... Kind of unbelievable that it is.
